Climate Change & the importance of Environmental Compliance

edac climate change

It is apparent that human influence has directly impacted climate change, which has led to significant and rapid changes in the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and biosphere across the globe. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in their most recent report, ‘Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis’, highlight that human influence has warmed the climate at a rate that is “unprecedented in at least the last 2000 years”. And, since the last report in 2013, the certainty of human influence on climate change related issues, such as weather and sea levels has grown at an alarming rate. From wildfires and freak flooding witnessed around the world, it is difficult to ignore the impact of climate change, and it clear, based on the findings, that the climate crisis is well underway, bordering on the point of no return.

Now more than ever, limiting human-induced global warming to a specific level is crucial to reach at least net zero CO2 emissions, along with strong reductions in other greenhouse gas emissions. The Paris Agreement, a legally binding treaty, adopted by 196 parties in 2015, aimed to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels, requiring governments and corporations around the world to implement change to reduce their carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. However, the result of IPPC findings highlights the need to accelerate current efforts at a much greater rate than the Paris Treaty suggests. The UN-convened Net-Zero Asset-Owner Alliance is requesting that companies and governments act urgently, suggesting actions such as setting interim carbon targets by 2025, improving climate risk reporting and developing new models and approaches in business operations.

Now more than ever, businesses must now be reactive and review their strategic efforts in order to minimise their carbon footprint and review their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to suit. There is significant pressure on corporations to invest time and capital into implementing frameworks to manage and report on climate risk.  However, the risks of doing nothing are much greater, with the predicted negative impact on supply chains, operational efficiencies and fiscal shocks linked to the climate crisis.

At Edac, we know that empowering a sustainable future starts with data. Our mission is to have a positive impact on how our clients manage their environmental compliance through our unique innovative software and our managed services. Through our software and managed services, we ensure that organisations have full oversight of environmental compliance activities and take on the responsibility of arranging these activities for our clients, offering an efficient and convenient solution to environmental compliance.

We support organisations with our digital solution to inform their environmental compliance knowledge, ensuring complete transparency of their environmental assets and activities. Our platform is a cloud-based tool that helps customers manage their environmental assets including air monitoring devices and location points, bund management, noise monitoring, odour management, and underground networks, such as foul networks, storm networks and process networks, which are drainage assets and manholes.  Depending on the facility, clients can have between 500 and 2,000 environmental compliance activities per year. The edac platform can host all information on historical works related to the assets and their tasks.

The edac platform ensures that organisations have all essential knowledge and complete transparency of their environmental assets and compliance activities.  By using the software, you’ll always be up to date with how your facility is performing in relation to the activities set out in your permit. Our platform monitors the requirements of each organisations’ permit.  For example, surface water sampling must be tested frequently in line with permit requirements. Edac can automate lab test results to feed directly into the platform.

The Edac software hosts all environmental compliance documents in one place, making information available, anywhere and at any time. We support organisations with our digital solution to their environmental compliance knowledge, ensuring complete transparency of their environmental assets and activities. We ensure that organisations are always up to date with environmental compliance activities.
